Power To End Stroke Gospel Tour
Stroke is the No. 3 killer of African Americans and the third leading cause of death in Illinois.
Risk factors for heart disease and stroke are disproportionately high among African Americans: prevalence of hypertension in African Americans in the United States is among the highest in the world; African Americans develop high blood pressure at an earlier age; and 58 to 68 percent of African American men and women are either overweight or obese.
Because of these risk factors, it’s no surprise that young African Americans have a two-to-three-fold greater risk of stroke.

Grammy-winner Dr. Bobby Jones, host of Black Entertainment Television’s (BET) “Bobby Jones Gospel,” will visit Chicago as part of the American Stroke Association’s Power To End Stroke Gospel Tour.
The tour will feature health screenings and educational
activities, followed by a gospel music celebration with performances by national and local acts.
Scheduled performers include Ronnie Diamond, Rodney Bryant, Shekinah Glory and Rev. Milton Brunson's Thompson Community Choir. Power to End Stroke is the
American Stroke Association’s aggressive education and awareness campaign focused on African Americans.
African Americans are twice as likely to suffer a stroke as
compared to other ethnic groups.
